Water Quality Reporting
There were no new boil water orders reported Saturday in the US. Either there were no issues anywhere with drinking water across the country or none were reported. After reading an in-depth article published in the New York Times, I suspect it's the latter. An extensive review of water pollution records by The New York Times found that in recent years, violations of the Clean Water Act have risen steadily across the nation. In fact, "in the last five years alone, chemical factories, manufacturing plants and other workplaces have violated water pollution laws more than half a million times." According to this frightening report, drinking water in every state is laced with chemicals and toxins that remain unreported and undetected. So maybe your water has no E.Coli in it but in many instances it is far from good for you. Check out the NYT national database of water pollution violations to find out if there are any major polluters in your area. Unfortunetaly, although there is no Canadian database, there is little reason to believe that Canada's waters fare any better. - The Water Chronicles

A public drinking water supply in Nova Scotia is a water works system that has at least 15 service connections or serves 25 or more individuals per day at least 60 days of the year. There are therefore many small public systems across the province. Nova Scotia requires public drinking water supply owners to test their water supplies on a regular basis, to inform their customers and Nova Scotia Environment if there are problems.

In Newfoundland Labrador coliform bacteria prompted advisories in Cottlesville, Summerford and St. Lewis, while repairs or maintenance were the reasons for boil orders in Kippens and Channel-Port-aux-Basques.
Finally in Quebec there is an advisory for system # 134319780701 in Saint-Celestin in the central region. Quebec reports do not detail the reason for their advisories.
Latest advisories in the US
Broken water mains caused boil orders in Bucyrus, OH, Susquehanna Township, PA, and Huntington, WV.
Meanwhile, a boil water advisory posted for NW Atlanta has been lifted after officials conducted water tests. The incident has however brought to light a problem with the city's easily-accessible water valves Lids with a big 'W' on them that can be found across the city actually house valves that can shut off water to specific areas of the city. Atlanta officials believe someone used one such valve to lower water pressure in northwest Atlanta, forcing officials to issue a boil water advisory.
In Massachusetts, the police and fire chiefs have issued highly critical reports in the wake of the 2-week boil water order in Milford, as well as suggestion as to how to remedy the situation. The reports which conclude that the Milford Water Co. was "ill prepared" to respond to the town's drinking water crisis, break down last month's emergency response from the slow initial notification of officials to how the town took over an impromptu bottled water distribution program that was "doomed to fail."
